Tom
Templeton is a native of Tennessee and after serving in
the military he returned to his hometown of Nashville.
There he retired from the Department of Defense as an
aviator in a civilian capacity. He also retired from the
Air National Guard serving a total of 37 years.
During this time his formal education was
conducted at UT at Nashville, Volunteer State College
and Community College of the Air Force. The focus of
studies in Business and Management.
With an entrepreneur sprit and a burning
passion a small HVAC service company was formed in 1984.
To have the customer base needed to grow a successful
business two operating businesses were acquired, one
being 25 years old. Combining his highly technical
training, knowledge and experience coupled with having
component management with the day-to-day operations
until 1995 when retiring to take full responsibility for
the company.
Several months and years were spent
developing systems to make the company successful.
Success was measured in how the business grew in Service
Agreements, Customer Care, Exit Strategy, and a bottom
line of 8-10 percent above national average for HVAC
companies. Having experience with a Global Franchise
gave additional strategy and synergy to the overall
function of the business and its employees.
After looking at several options during
the peak of consolidation and doing due diligence with a
local consolidator, the business was sold to a
professional businessperson with no HVAC experience in
2001. With proven systems in place, and the strength of
branding the company for fifteen years, made for a
seamless transition and gave reason for the new
owner to achieve additional success.
Since retiring to a small town in Middle
Tennessee it is his desire and continued “passion” to
coach others “with the heart of a teacher”, thus
Coaching for Contractors was established.
